A fairer meal deal for children
In response to the shortage of government support to provide out of term school meals during the current crisis, we have created a new initiative called ‘Beyond Just Food for Kids’ to assist our community through half-term and beyond, by providing packed lunches and after-school dinners to local low-income families in need of support.
In our Southwark neighbourhood, issues of obesity, lack of activity and families suffering hardship, are enormous. The surge of fast food shops full of children is massively worrying. Therefore, not only do we wish to tackle feeding local children of families in poverty, during half-term school hours; but also the unreported after-school need, together with providing education and an enjoyable family social enterprise experience.
We aim to provide 1,000 pack lunches for children distributed via their schools or local food banks.
We would also like to offer an opportunity for their families to experience and enjoy a nutritious meal together, with our compliments at our social enterprise restaurant, The Brigade Bar + Kitchen.
Finally, we wish to inspire healthy eating by giving away copies of our Beyond Food Foundation cooking skills book; ‘How to Cook & Keep on Cooking’ by Chef Founder Simon Boyle.
