London to Brighton bike ride

A Beyond Food team alongside 2000 other cyclists descended on Clapham Common in the very early hours of Sunday morning to cycle 54 miles from capital to coast. The Beyond Food team consisted of 11 people; our Chef and founder Simon Boyle; two of our former apprentices Mel and Dixie; Dixie’s brother Paul; Beyond Food supporters David and Piers; Simon’s brother Nick; Gary and Rich from PwC and finally Rob and Jakub, chefs from De Vere Venues.

The event was both gruelling and rewarding for the apprentices! Dixie said that they “had to rely on both willpower and determination to get them through the last half of the bike ride”, with Mel adding “we felt like real winners when we entered Brighton”. They mentioned the help they received from the marshals too, who were shouting words of encouragement along the whole course. Dixie and Mel were both really glad that they completed the ride and are even considering doing it again next year. 

Simon had a slightly more difficult ride, having had quite a bad crash within 8 miles of being home, he still managed to get back up and complete the course. He said that the ride was “tough but so worth it, particularly because I had two apprentice's cycling alongside me."

The apprentices have raised £170 with the whole team of 11 raising £2,843.95. This is the first time that the charity has done this challenge and with the success of the donations, this could be an annual event. To register your interest for 2016, please contact Katie at
